History of the race

History of the race…

The race started in 1990

The race began its life as The Sturminster Newton Carnival Half Marathon with the start and finish on the recreation ground.

There have been a few different routes throughout the years. The first one when I became race director, started in town, outside the Swan Public House. It went down Bridge Street, over the town bridge and up Broadoak. View our route in 1995

This route still holds the Race Record of 1:06:41 to Dave Clarke of Hercules Wimbledon in 1993.

In 2006 the race opened the new road in town

George Wimpey and the Stur Half opened Old Market Hill to the public. The runners were officially the first to use the road. Read the article
